Indian caraway cookies

Slightly sweet, slightly salty, cumin-flavored cookies from India’s rich cuisine. These cookies are very easy to prepare and go well with your morning coffee or tea.
These cookies can be found in many coffee or chai shops in India.

Preparation time: 20 minutes mixing the dough, about 1-hour baking cookies in total

Ingredients:
225 g room temperature 82% butter
75 g of sugar
300 g wheat flour
3 teaspoons of baking powder
4-5 teaspoons of caraway seeds
1.5 teaspoons of fine-grained sea salt

Preparation:

  1. Whisk room-temperature butter with sugar until white foam is formed.
  2. Mix the flour, cumin, sea salt, and baking powder and add to the butter.
  3. Shape the dough into bars with a diameter of about 3 cm and wrap it in cling film. Let cool for about 30 minutes.
  4. Cut slices about 6-7 mm thick, form them slightly rounder between your fingers and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  5. Bake at 180 degrees C for 15-17 minutes until the cookies are golden brown and cooked.
  6. Transfer the cookies to a metal rack or cutting board to cool and store them in an airtight jar.
